Composition Each uncoated CPOD 50 DT tablet contains Cefpodoxime proxetil USP equivalent to Cefpodoxime 50 mg Each uncoated CPOD 100 DT tablet contains Cefpodoxime proxetil USP equivalent to Cefpodoxime 100 mg Each uncoated CPOD 200 DT tablet contains Cefpodoxime proxetil USP equivalent to Cefpodoxime 200 mg
Availability

Strip of 10 tablets. Such 10 strips in a box

For patients who are averse to swallowing, the tablets are dispersible in water

Note: Approximately 130 mg of Cefpodoxime proxetil delivers 100 mg of cefpodoxime activity.

Therapeutic Group 3rd generation broad-spectrum cephalosporin.
Mode of Action CPOD is bactericidal and acts by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Clinical Benefits

Eliminates the underlying cause (bacterial infection) and relieves the symptoms of infection such as:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Throat pain
  • Burning micturition
Usage and Application

Adults (Above 12 years)

1 tablet of 100 mg or 200 mg twice daily (12 hourly) for 5-14 days depending upon the severity of symptoms CPOD, being a prodrug should preferably be taken after meals to enhance the absorption.

Infants & Children (2 months to 12 years)

  • a) 10 mg/kg bodyweight in 24 hours as a single dose or;
  • b) 5 mg/kg bodyweight every 12 hours
  • c) The duration of treatment varies from 5 to 14 days depending upon severity of symptoms
Adverse Effects

The most common adverse effects reported with CPOD are diarrhea (7%), nausea (3.3%) and abdominal pain (1.2%) Side effects are seldom severe enough to discontinue the treatment Side effects can be minimised by administering the dose at bedtime with a meal .
